Ecosia's search results are provided by its own search index, Staan, developed by the co-founded European Search Perspective, as well as Google and Microsoft Bing; thus, Ecosia is partly a proxy search engine. In 2025, Ecosia was ranked as one of the most used search engines in the world, with a market share of 0.10-0.15%. By April 2026, about 250 million trees had been planted in more than 35 countries.
